New Marble Coffee Tables And Desk (arriving early June)

From its earliest usage by Greek and Roman sculptors and architects in their statues and buildings, marble has always signified refined taste and classic style. Our new Marco and Moda coffee tables and Polo desk definitely live up to these timeless standards.

Moda Coffee Table setting 1

Moda Coffee Table 17.5″ H x 39″ Diameter

The tops are made from polished Volakas marble, quarried in the mountainside of Falakro, in Drama, Greece. “Volakas” – which comes from the name of a nearby village – is known as the “Carrara of Greece” due to its pristine all white background and rich grey or brown veins. The polish that coats the marble gives the smooth surface a shiny, much glossier look (than honed marble) and acts as a form of protection against stains.

Each unique steel base has been designed for maximum visual impact using dark colours to create contrast and drama. The Polo and Moda coffee tables will come with adjustable feet for uneven surfaces.

Variations in veins is a common characteristic of marble, so no two pieces will look alike. We try our best to maintain consistency from slab to slab. Polished marble does not require as much re-sealing as honed marble, but it is still very important to wipe away any spills immediately as certain substances will etch the surface.

Staff Profile – Shaun Edwards

Shaun started with Style In Form in March of 2015 as casual help for Norm in the warehouse and is now taking over most of Karolina’s work while she is on maternity leave. “It’s a big change, from the back to the front office, but it suits my organizational OCD,” he says, only half joking. Shaun is an adventurous soul, with a big heart and a warm, easy going attitude. He recently took up both mountain climbing and snow boarding and just adopted a cute 7 month old chocolate lab named Molly.

10292149_10156356732580008_1280396603996660949_nShaun’s 3 favourite pieces – “I can only choose three!” – from Style In Form include the Metropolitan Collection, Root Round Coffee Table and the hand crafted Kitten Tables from AIM Handmade. “I love the Metropolitan pieces because they are classic yet versatile and the Root Round Coffee Table because of its natural, earthy vibe and the uniqueness of each piece. Plus it now comes in a Condo Size, which is perfect! The AIM Collection is simple but sharp, and I really like that they are built in BC.”

Here’s how Shaun answered some of our more pressing questions:

Favourite Movie: “Pitch Perfect. I could watch it over and over again.”

Favourite TV show: “Schitt’s Creek.”

Actress: “Kate Winslet is amazing”

Crush: “A young Chevy Chase.” Really… a young Chevy Chase? “So hot!”

Music in the car: “Anything Top 40.”

Last meal: “Home made pizza. With broccoli, pepperoni and carrots. Very spicy.”

Guilty Pleasure: “Reality TV. If it starts with The Real Housewives, I’m in.”

Secret Shame: “I have lots, but nothing I’d ever announce on the internet…”

Well Shaun, it’s no secret that you are amazing and that we are thrilled to have you as part of the Style In Form team.

BC Hydro Dream Loft At The BC Home + Garden Show

When you think about efficiency and finding ways to save money on your hydro bill, style and impeccable design may not be the first two things that spring to mind. Jamie Banfield, founder and principal designer at Jamie Banfield Design, wants to change all that with his Chicago-style, loft-inspired space at the BC Home + Garden Show.

Using the slogan “style is nothing without smarts,” he’s worked with BC Hydro and local businesses to create a space that is both beautiful to look at and energy efficient. Ultimately, it is all about not having to compromise. You can use high-performance ENERGY STAR double and triple glazed windows and ENERGY STAR appliances or economical heating and cooling systems that use less energy without having to give up great taste. You can use a heat recovery ventilation system that both improves your home’s ventilation and reduces dust, pollen and other allergens – making your home safer for your family, without having to sacrifice functional design.

The BC Home + Garden Show runs through Sunday at BC Place Stadium. You can catch Jamie on the main stage talking about interior design with Power Smart in mind on Friday at 7 PM, Saturday at 6 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. Click here for ways BC Hydro can help you save money and make your home more energy efficient. Check out the Trudeau Storage Bed, Rail Side Table, Griffin Desk, Hairpin Nesting Table, Flute Round Dining Table and Cairo Chairs from Style In Form used in the BC Hydro Dream Loft below.

Designer Profile: Jamie Banfield talks community and collaboration

Jamie-BanfieldAfter spending some time with Jamie Banfield one quickly realizes he is not as quiet and reserved as he first presents. He is unabashedly excited about interior design and the process of people working together – both him with his clients and with the design community as a whole. Although his company, Jamie Banfield Design is widely recognized as an industry leader and his signature West Coast style has earned him numerous awards, including Best Of Houzz 2015 – Customer Service, you would never know it from meeting him. He does not want to talk about himself. He is much more interested in talking about his team, the “kick-ass community” he has behind him and how communication and collaboration are the basis of everything he does.

“I can only be as good as the people I surround myself with,” he says. “It starts with my team and extends to the on-site trades we use and the manufacturers we work with.”

Jamie lives in White Rock with his husband Aaron and draws most of his inspiration from his surroundings, be it the trees outside his living room window, the Chicago city skyline he became enamored with on a recent trip or the railway yards outside his office. “There is inspiration everywhere,” he says. “I like to use reclaimed or repurposed pieces whenever I can, or be sure to add in something that is one-of-a-kind.”

When asked which Style In Form pieces were his favourites, Jamie picked our Rail Side Table – “timeless and sophisticated” – Curve Chair – “love the shape” – and the Bebas Console Table – “love this piece, it is a show stopper.”

Jamie cares about the details and is a man who loves a plan. “There is a process we follow with every client that is essential to the success of the project. From the original “meet + inspire”, through concept and planning, everything is laid out. Expectations – on both sides – are set and then the client can just sit back and enjoy the ride. Design is fun, it shouldn’t be stressful.”

Another important piece to Jamie’s philosophy is buying local whenever possible. He is a “local entrepreneur” running a small Canadian business and he understands that pressure. He has built an extensive network of local contacts and suppliers, which gives his clients the most choice, the best pricing and only top of the line products.

It was our pleasure to work closely with Jamie at the BC Home + Garden Show, IDS West and the Vancouver Home + Design Show in 2015 and we are excited to partner up with him again this year.

We absolutely love Jamie’s design work. Here are some of our favourites.

Volunteering At Aunt Leah’s Christmas Tree Lot

AL LogoAll of us had such a great time this past week volunteering at Aunt Leah’s Christmas Tree Lot. It was our second year helping out, and neither the cold nor rain could not dampen our spirits! A bulk of Aunt Leah’s yearly fundraising comes from the donations they receive at their tree lots. Last year they raised over $100,000 that goes directly to helping prevent foster kids from becoming homeless and young mothers in need from losing custody of their children. Volunteering at one of their Tree Lots is a great activity to do with family, friends or coworkers and you get to meet the happiest, most excited people searching for that perfect Christmas Tree. We’ll definitely sign up to do it again next year!

This year we were at the Eagle Ridge United Church in Coquitlam (2813 Glen Drive) not far from Coquitlam Center. You can find a full list of their Christmas Tree lots here. It’s not too late to volunteer or to buy your tree from Aunt Leah’s. Lots are open every day until December 22nd. Contact volunteer coordinator Chloe Dunn at 604-525-1204 if you would like to help out and make a positive difference in the lives of at risk foster kids.

Aunt Leah’s Trivia Night Extravaganza

AL LogoAunt Leah’s Society provides supported housing, job training and coaching on the essential skills that many of us take for granted. Aunt Leah’s prevents teens from becoming homeless and prevents young mothers from losing their children to foster care.

We attended their annual Trivia Night Extravaganza this past weekend, had an absolutely amazing time, and placed 2ND out of 20 + teams! More importantly, we helped raise money for this essential charity. Our Tipis Fruit Bowls were donated and auctioned off to the tune of $150 and Allison and Nat won their silent auction items and all of the money went to help foster kids in need.

As well as hosting their annual trivia night, Aunt Leah’s raises the bulk of their yearly fund raising goals through Aunt Leah’s Trees. Last year, through generous sponsors, buyers and volunteers, over $100,000 was raised! This money goes directly to help foster kids in need. They source their quality trees from Pacific Northwest Tree Farmers, who’s sustainable efforts and techniques ensure low environmental impact. We volunteered last year and had such a blast we can’t wait to do it again this year! There’s no better place to buy your Christmas Tree than Aunt Leah’s Trees!

HomeStart Foundation

give-to-inspire-others-to-give-giving-back-picture-quoteLife is busy. Work is busy. It’s easy to forget that there are a lot of people in need. We recently had the opportunity to donate to the good people at the HomeStart Foundation and couldn’t be more privileged to share their story with you.

HomeStart is a non-profit  organization that furnishes homes to help families in need rebuild their lives. Since 2003 they have furnished over 1000 homes. Their mission is to “help those in our community with limited resources to achieve their desire for a comfortable home environment.” HomeStart works in partnership with more than 70 member organizations to collect and distribute furniture and appliances to people in need in Greater Vancouver.

Last week, Dan and one of his volunteers, came by our warehouse in their big yellow truck and collected the remaining stock of our Iris Coffee and End Tables. Thanks Dan, we hope they go to good home!

Visit Us This Weekend At The Toronto Fall Home Show

This is the first year Style In Form will be at the Fall Home Show in Toronto and we are really excited that we were invited to participate.

In partnership with the Canadian Decorator’s Association and Home + Style Studio Tour we are showcasing our products in an effort to raise money and awareness for the continuing fight against HIV/AIDS. At 3000 sq. ft. this is the largest cause-related special feature at the Fall Home Show – an event that brings in over 34,000 visitors each year. Our pieces will be sold off and the money donated to HIV/AIDS research. We have donated a Griffin Desk, two Crane Chairs, a Cairo Chair, an Edie Dining Table, a Bebas Console Table and a set of Tipis Fruit Bowls to this very worthwhile endeavor.

The Toronto Fall Home Show runs this weekend, October 1st to 4th at the Better Living Center, 195 Princes Boulevard, Exhibition Place, Toronto. We encourage you to pop by the Home Show and check us out, and perhaps even make a purchase for a good cause.
